The following exemplar texts are included in this bundle: • Character profile • Dialogue writing • Diary entries • Letter Each resource contains the following documents: • An example text to use as a WAGOLL • A feature identification sheet • Feature identification answer sheet Writing templates and extracts are also included with some resources. The language, grammar and punctuation features to be identified in the texts include: • Alliteration • Similes • Metaphors • Fronted adverbials followed by a comma • Expanded noun phrases • Co-ordinating conjunctions • Apostrophes for singular possession • Apostrophes for contraction • Commas in a list • Commas to add extra information • Colons • Semi-colons • Brackets • Hyphens These example texts can be used to examine the features of writing as a WAGOLL before pupils embark on writing their own text. Raúf • The girl from Journey by Aaron Becker • Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell • Christophe from Christophe’s Story by Nicki Cornwell These exemplar character descriptions are perfect to use as WAGOLLs during World Book Day celebrations or during guided reading and literacy lessons. The model character profiles come with feature identification worksheets for children to fill in, plus answer sheets that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class. After identifying the features of the text, pupils can write their own character descriptions of characters from a book of choice using the Character Profile Templates (also included).
